Node.js

6 tutorials

These Node.js tutorials build backends, bots and small services. Write a Twitter Bot in Node.js (2 parts) and Build A Simple Search Bot in 30 minutes are quick first projects that teach working with third-party APIs, though Twitter's API rules have changed since they were written. Build A Job Scraping Web App fetches and parses job listings and shows them in a small web app.

Michael Herman's Test-Driven Development with Node, Postgres and Knex builds a REST API test-first with Mocha and Chai and a real database, and is the most useful tutorial here for backend habits. Building a GitHub App creates a bot that responds to GitHub webhooks. How to build your own Uber-for-X App (2 parts) uses MongoDB geospatial queries and WebSockets to match requests with the nearest available provider in real time, and is the largest project in the section.

Suggested order: one of the bots, then the scraping app, then the TDD API, then the Uber-for-X app. More Node.js work appears in the PWAs, Hapi and Express section and in several React and Vue full-stack tutorials.
